After seven years of fund raising Cornwall’s 1,000 Multiple Sclerosis sufferers finally have their own therapy centre. Situated in the middle of the county at Hewas Water between St Austell and Truro this two million pound project has opened to the public. From Tuesday 14th April, patients with MS will be able to get treatment five days a week. The new centre offers a range of therapies and includes hyperbaric oxygen therapy which is proving to be very beneficial for many MS suffers. ‘Many people who live in Cornwall have been travelling to Exeter regularly for this treatment; this in it self shows how beneficial this treatment can be for many MS sufferers’ says Loraine Long, Manager of the new Centre. ‘Now we have our own chambers in Cornwall it is hoped that many more will benefit from this treatment’
In addition to Oxygen Therapy there is a fully equipped gym for physiotherapy, complimentary therapies, osteopath and occupational therapy. In time it is hoped that the centre will also be used by other neurological sufferers. Fund Raising continues to open phase two of the project which will include three further consultations rooms and an aqua therapy pool. Already there has been a great deal of interest in the centre and many have signed up for the treatments on offer.
