TeamMSRC complete the New York Marathon!
Here is the victorious TeamMSRC team from the 2009 New York Marathon.

    TeamMSRC New York Marathin 2009

    Their finish times were:

    Tom 3:33:40
    Simon  3:48:43
    Dan  4:34:08
Olly  5:00:17  - Olly became a dad at the beginning of October so has been somewhat distracted from his training!

Tom said the course was tougher than London, but they had the most fantastic time and are well on their way to raising £10k for MSRC.

    Well done guys!

The New York Marathon Fundraising Team's Update – by Tom Pope
On Sunday 9th August, we held the first of our four events to help us reach our £10k target.

Taking place at Delish 1620 in Hythe and beginning at 6pm, 9 teams competed across six rounds for a selection of prizes donated by local businesses.

    Quiz Teams 1

The entry price was £12 which included a meal at the interval for every team member with many opting for the infamous local chilli con carne dish.

The eventual winners were team Chivers, captained by Barbara and Rodney who came out on top after a sterling performance.

    Quiz Team Winners

Special thanks must go to Andy, the owner of Delish 1620 who especially opened the venue for the quiz to take place on the Sunday evening. Andy also generously donated a selection of bar profits to the cause and, with the sale of raffle tickets, helped us on our way to raising a total of........

£511.88 towards the New York target

Thanks to everyone who came, it was great to see you all. Thanks for your generosity in getting the ball rolling.

Our next event is on the 29th August at Hythe Cricket Club where we have a family barbeque planned alongside live music, a boot fair and the continuation of the raffle.

We look forward to seeing you there.

TeamMSRC take on the New York Marathon 2009

    New York Marathon

On November 1st, Tom Pope, Daniel Large, Simon Chivers and Oliver Morgan will be running 26.12 miles across the 5 boroughs of the Big Apple in the ING New York City Marathon 2009.

They will be competing against 37,000 others and raising money and awareness for the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC),  a charity with much personal affiliation.

As a four man team, they have a combined sponsorship total of  £10,000  and need help and support in reaching their target. The UK boys will be running a number of events including quiz nights, football, barbeques as well as live music whereas Olly will be arranging a secret auction from New York to help them reach their goals.

MSRC is a national charity committed to supporting anyone affected by Multiple Sclerosis - their approach is to encourage individuals to make choices that are appropriate to their daily lives, empowering them to maximise their potential.

The lads are delighted to have Alastair 'Higgy' Hignell's full backing. They will compete as 'Higgy's Heroes'© . Commenting on their effort, Higgy made the following statement.
    .
“It takes a special kind of person to run a marathon for the MSRC. It takes a very special kind of person to run 2 marathons for the MSRC inside seven months. Tom is that man, and I’m are delighted he’s persuaded 3 others to pound the streets of New York alongside him. They are true Higgy’s Heroes. Please help them reach their goals.”

If you would like to sponsor the TeamMSRC runners, Tom, Daniel Simon and Oliver please visit their Justgiving page.
