| Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is a means of producing useful movement in paralysed muscles. Electrical impulses are applied using either skin surface or implanted electrodes and course muscles to contract in a controlled manner. Applications are found in spinal cord injury, stroke, MS and cerebral palsy to assist standing, walking and hand function. Salisbury is a leading centre in the UK for the clinical provision of FES and also for its research and development. We also provide training courses for clinicians who wish to use the techniques that we have developed. For more information on Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) at the National Clinical FES Centre can be obtained from their webesite: Other contact details are:Dept.
